Leadership and transformation in multichannel retail and eCommerce

I’ve known the good folk at cScape for many years and recently they’ve been making a splash with the launch of their Customer Engagement Unit, headed by Richard Sedley. It was my pleasure therefore to open their Thought Leadership Workshop on the topic of the migration “From User Experience to Customer Engagement”. The Brewery on Chiswell Street, EC1 is a great venue and the audience of some 100 people was enthusiastic, engaged (no pun!) and eclectic.
Write-ups of the event are available from cScape.

May 8th will find me at the Periodical Publishers’ Association’s annual conference, speaking to the Independent Publishers’ stream about the monetisation model I’ve developed with e-Consultancy.
I was pleased to be asked to address the Global Leadership Team of the British Council at their biannual GLT summit. The GLT comprises the UK directorate as well as the Country Directors, some 35 people in total, and they spent a couple of hours on the topic. In addition to a presentation delivered in London the session was webcast to the offices globally, and the Q&A session included some from ‘web attendees’ in addition to the GLT.

The agenda for the Emetrics Summit in London (29-30 March 2007) has been released and I’m pleased to be providing a succinct contribution to the proceedings:
You are well aware of the value of web analytics. Now it’s time for the insider’s look at what’s really worth pursuing and what should be avoided. Ian’s challenge to clients, readers etc is to start from ‘actionable scenarios’ when implementing emetrics systems (especially the very challenging, enterprise-scale ones) and how to ensure that the business focuses upon actions and not ‘analysis-paralysis’. Ian takes a look at pragmatic considerations for very senior marketers and commercial people, and provides a view of how emetrics is seen, valued, abused and lauded around the board table.
It’s shaping up to be a really interesting couple of days with some great speakers. Worth attending just for the networking and insight opportunities.
Expect some good information too. As Jim Sterne said (rather severely) to all speakers:
As I’ve said previously, this audience pretty much understands the what – they want insight into the how…
Should be a fun event!

“The exclusive networking event for senior digital marketers and buyers” launches with a whole day’s streamed presentation, discussion and debate on digital marketing.
The attendee list is a senior one from many of the UK’s most interesting digital businesses, so I’m expecting that the networking opportunities and value will be high.
The Retail Business ShowPresenting on the issues Retailers face in implementing sophisticated search and guided navigation products, with Joris Beckers of Fredhopper.
Breakfast Briefing – Emerging Trends for Internet Professionals | Training | E-consultancy.come-Consultancy have started offering Breakfast Briefings – early morning sessions on key issues for e-marketers, starting at 0800 and lasting about 2 hours. It’s a good way for people to be able to meet, get some stimulus and keep abreast of developments – and still get to the office for a near-full day’s work.
I’m pleased to have been asked to host the March event, where I’ll be looking at the emerging trends that should be of interest, concern or excitement to internet professionals.

I’m looking forward to speaking at the Manchester Digital/e-Consultancy “Digital Shorts” event in Manchester on 17 January.
